I am an equity-driven educator committed to creating a classroom where all students feel seen, valued, and empowered. My teaching is grounded in culturally sustaining practices that honor students’ identities, languages, and lived experiences. I design engaging, meaningful learning experiences that support both academic growth and social-emotional development. Through strong relationships, high expectations, and intentional instruction, I strive to cultivate confident, capable learners who see themselves as important members of their community.
I believe teaching is both an intellectual and political act, and I approach my work as an educator with a deep commitment to equity, justice, and transformation. My role is not only to teach academic content, but to create a humanizing classroom space where students feel seen, affirmed, and empowered to bring their full identities into their learning.
I strive to be a warm demander—cultivating strong, authentic relationships with my students while holding high expectations for their growth and success. I recognize that students are not empty vessels; they come to the classroom with rich cultural and linguistic assets. Through culturally sustaining pedagogy, I intentionally center students’ funds of knowledge, lived experiences, and home languages as essential components of instruction, especially within multilingual learning environments.
My teaching is grounded in the belief that learning should be active, collaborative, and meaningful. I design instruction that engages students in dialogue, critical thinking, and hands-on exploration, while also building their academic language and confidence. I prioritize social-emotional learning and community building, understanding that a pro-social classroom ecology is foundational to student success.
I am committed to disrupting inequitable systems and practices that marginalize students, particularly emergent bilingual learners and historically underserved communities. Through differentiated instruction, scaffolded supports, and ongoing use of data, I work to ensure that all students have access to rigorous, grade-level content. I also aim to raise students’ consciousness of the world around them by creating opportunities for them to question, reflect, and connect their learning to their communities and identities.
Ultimately, my goal as an educator is to empower students to see themselves as capable, valued, and agentive individuals. I want my classroom to be a space where students not only learn, but also develop the confidence and tools to navigate and transform the world around them. I am committed to continuous reflection, growth, and advocacy in order to better serve my students and their communities.
